HCS' drive for Excellent, Christ Centered education is accomplished by engaging students through active learning.  Mrs. Garges' 5th grade literature class studied the classic tale of Pinocchio then created a Paper Mache puppet of their own design.
Mrs. Hollowell's 3rd/4th grade history class studies Texas Indian groups.  In order to extend their learning experience, students researched their own Texas tribe.  They wrote a research paper about the tribe, created a diorama or tri-fold to illustrate the tribe's way of life and presented the projects to their peers.  All these projects were integrated with the word of God.  Pinocchio applied the biblical principle that the love of money is the root of all evil, it is better to obey even though it isn’t what you want to do, and listen to the instruction of the wise.  The Texas Indian tribes were biblically integrated by research into their beliefs and forms of worship.  Then they compared this with biblical truth and our way of worship.

           Fire Prevention Week
Today HCS kicked off Fire Prevention Week with a visit from Engine #6 at the Lufkin Fire Department.  Students toured the fire truck and the ambulance.  They learned how fireman, fight fires and save lives.  The fireman reminded students of what to do in case of a fire.  They should call 911, have a set meeting place outside and crawl on your hands and knees to get out of the house.   Students had fun learning about safety practices for home and school.

Third and fourth grade presented the first chapel of the new year today in the HHBC Worship Center.  Their presentation was entitled "Be Like A Tree"  They reminded us that our Christian walk must be deeply rooted in Christ so we will not be shaken by life's ever changing circumstances.  Joint chapel is presented each month by different classes throughout the year.  They all encourage us to live our life for Christ each and every day.  You can join us the first Wednesday of every month for a special blessing by the HCS student's during Joint Chapel Services.
